From the battlefield to the playing field

We started by providing health data to our troops in Afghanistan. Now we're bringing that data to athletes everywhere.

BlackBox Biometrics®, Inc. (b3inc.com) was founded in 2011 with the goal of providing objective data to aid the triage and medical treatment associated with today’s signature war wound: traumatic brain injury (TBI).

At the time when the Iraq War was nearing an end and the United States was ten-years into war in Afghanistan, over 200,000 U.S. service members had already been diagnosed with TBI. With nothing available to measure the blasts that often cause undetectable head injuries, soldiers and medical personnel were forced to face the effects of these injuries with inconsistent and subjective data.

Seeing this need and the opportunity to improve the lives of soldiers and their families, BlackBox Biometrics assembled a small team to develop a solution providing better triage data. The result was the Blast Gauge® System, a revolutionary sensor that has since been outfitted on U.S. Special Forces, the Army, the FBI, and SWAT teams across the nation. The Blast Gauge System provides faster and more accurate treatment for the men and women serving on the frontlines, and better research for advancing the study of TBI.

Today, BlackBox Biometrics continues to be the industry leader in measuring the unseen impact of concussive injuries by bringing their expertise from the battlefield to the playing field. The Linx Impact Assessment System (IAS) sends real-time impact data for an athlete to a smartphone or tablet. This cumulative data provides new opportunities to monitor athletes and aid the triage and treatment of dangerous concussions.

The talented team at BlackBox Biometrics is comprised of like-minded individuals—in engineering, operations, and business—all with the collective goal of improving lives through the creation of innovative technology.
